The short answer
Compare a complete alternative quote against your actual SumUp plan, payment needs and full costs. Awais offers proposals through takepayments / Global Payments; a saving is not guaranteed. Staying with SumUp or choosing another SumUp plan may still fit your business.

Quote B is £2.00 lower per month in this model. Compare year-one costs separately if setup fees differ.
Monthly card sales: £4,000.00. Enter each payment category once. The annual plan uses £189 ÷ 12 = £15.75 for monthly comparison; £189 is paid upfront for the year. Fixed costs should include your subscription and any extra recurring costs once. Put a hardware purchase under setup. Non-standard or unknown categories need your actual contracted rate. Check SumUp pricing and eligibility.
Use one consistent VAT basis. This is a simplified comparison: no exit costs, promotional changes, reserves, refunds or chargebacks are included unless you account for them in the inputs. If your minimum covers different charges, or rates cannot be blended reliably, use a provider-prepared comparison.

The current starting point
Checked 5 October 2026: SumUp publishes 1.69% for ordinary pay-as-you-go in-person payments. Payments Plus costs £19 monthly or £189 annually, with 0.99% for eligible domestic consumer in-person cards. Corporate, international and premium card payments need separate treatment; the published higher in-person rate is 1.69%. Online payments are listed at 2.50%. Eligible SumUp personal-card in-person payments are listed at 0%.
Use your own contracted plan if different. The estimator separates these categories and lets you change every rate. Confirm eligibility against your agreement, especially for any card category you cannot identify. Keep hardware, optional services and VAT treatment on the same basis. The annual subscription is paid upfront; £15.75 is its monthly equivalent, not a monthly subscription.
A simple eligibility-aware calculation
The advertised rate difference for eligible volume is 0.70 percentage points. Using the monthly £19 plan and ignoring other cost differences, break-even is £19 ÷ 0.007 = approximately £2,714.29 of eligible card payments per month.
This is a mathematical comparison of the published monthly plans under stated assumptions. It is not a takepayments quote, a whole-market comparison or a guarantee of net savings. A different annual subscription basis changes the calculation.
When an alternative review makes sense
A growing counter operation, additional terminals, adding another location, integration needs or dissatisfaction with the current service can justify a broader review. List the specific capability you need and ask how the proposed setup will deliver it.
If your existing reader is reliable and the complete costs fit your turnover, keeping it may be appropriate. Awais can assess a takepayments / Global Payments proposal against your actual requirements, subject to available solutions and approval. Use the existing calculator to compare the full cost of two quotes.
Use eligible volume, not just total turnover
Suppose £4,000 of monthly payments includes £2,000 eligible for a lower rate. In a simple illustration using the published 0.70-percentage-point rate difference, the eligible portion contributes £14 of fee reduction before the subscription. Applying that difference to all £4,000 would double the estimated benefit incorrectly.
The calculation is a starting point for comparing the stated plans. Confirm the billing cycle, actual eligibility and any other cost differences on the current provider page before making a decision.

Common questions
Will takepayments definitely be cheaper than SumUp?
No. Only a complete proposal compared with your actual card mix and current plan can answer that.
Can I request a check without switching?
Yes. The cost calculation is free and a conversation is optional.
