In this guide
A dedicated portable terminal
TP+ is available on the PAX A920 Pro, with a touchscreen, printer and transaction reporting. The A920 Pro supports chip and PIN and contactless payments, using Wi-Fi or a suitably configured cellular connection. Confirm the supplied mobile setup, charging arrangements and the number of devices your staff need.
Tap-to-pay on your phone
Genius mobile pay accepts contactless payments on a compatible Android device running Android 9 or later with NFC and internet access. Merchant onboarding is required. Think about battery life, incoming calls and shared use. A phone has no physical card slot, so confirm what happens if a customer cannot complete a contactless payment.
Check coverage and the whole cost
Portable means you can carry the device; mobile connectivity still depends on coverage. Check both the usual payment point and any outside areas where you trade. Ask which connection is used and whether any SIM or data costs apply. Compare processing fees, rental and the contract, and confirm the provider-approved approach if the connection fails.
Common questions
Does a mobile card machine need Wi-Fi?
A suitably configured A920 Pro can use cellular connectivity as well as Wi-Fi. Confirm the supplied setup and coverage for the places you work.
Will 4G work where there is no mobile signal?
No connection is guaranteed at every location. Check for usable mobile coverage or Wi-Fi, and agree a practical alternative for areas with poor connectivity.
Can I print a receipt?
The PAX A920 Pro has an integrated receipt printer. If you choose phone-based tap-to-pay, discuss the available receipt options for that service.
Can customers pay when they are elsewhere?
Payment links can support remote payments through a hosted payment page. They are a separate payment method from tapping a card on your terminal, with their own applicable charges and terms.
