NEW BUSINESS PAYMENTS

Card machines for a new business

Start taking card payments with a setup that fits your new business. Tell Awais what you sell, where you will trade and your expected card sales.

The short answer

Estimate card turnover realistically, list your in-person and remote payment needs, and compare the full fixed commitment during a quiet launch month. Work back from opening to allow for provider approval, equipment, connectivity and any integration. The payment check itself does not open a merchant account.

APPLY THIS TO YOUR BUSINESS

Plan your new-business setup.

Tell Awais what you sell, your expected card sales and opening date. No processing statement is needed; estimates can be “Not sure”.

01

Build a realistic first-month requirement

List in-person, mobile and online payment needs separately. Estimate monthly card sales and average transaction value using the planned prices, opening hours and customer numbers. Avoid presenting the total business forecast as guaranteed card turnover.

If turnover is uncertain, compare fixed commitments under a quieter scenario too. A low headline percentage may be outweighed by minimum monthly service charges before the business is established.

02

Plan the application and setup

Applications require business and identity checks through the approved provider process. Awais handles the internal application through his existing role; this website does not collect banking details or identity documents.

Work back from the opening date with enough time to confirm approval, equipment, connectivity and any integration. Test a real payment and reconciliation using the provider’s approved process before relying on the setup at launch.

03

Specify the extra capabilities

Tap to Pay, payment links or phone payments and EPOS can be useful for particular needs. Availability, device compatibility, pricing and approval conditions must be checked for the solution available through Awais’s role.

Awais can use your payment check to explain the exact proposal and minimum commitment. Filling in the check is not a contract, a credit decision or confirmation of merchant approval.

04

Build three trading scenarios

Create a quiet, expected and busy month from your expected transaction count and average card sale. Keep cash and unpaid invoices separate from card turnover. Use the scenarios to see how fixed costs behave before the business reaches its expected volume.

For an invented example, £30 of fixed monthly payment costs represents 1% of £3,000 card sales but 0.2% of £15,000. Processing charges still need to be added. This illustrates why a small fixed commitment deserves attention before launch.

05

Have a named owner for opening-day payments

Agree who checks the application status, confirms installation, trains staff and reviews the first settlement. Ask for a permitted fallback if the planned setup is delayed. An estimated opening date should not be treated as guaranteed acquiring approval.

If this is an additional branch of a business that already trades, use the existing-business check instead and include the new location. That gives Awais the current arrangement to work from.

Common questions

Can you guarantee a machine by my opening date?

No. Setup depends on information, approval, equipment and the agreed implementation. Share the date so the requirement can be assessed.

Should I guess the numbers?

Use a reasonable estimate if available and identify it as such. Leave optional fields blank when you do not know.
