The short answer
Compare fees using actual repair invoices, card mix and payment methods. Confirm how deposits, remote invoice payments and vehicle handover are permitted. A garage, parts retailer and vehicle-sales business can have different approval and operational requirements.

In this guide
Start with the average invoice
For a £500 card payment, an illustrative 0.8% charge is £4 and a 3p transaction charge adds £0.03. The combined processing charge is £4.03, or 0.806%, before fixed fees. These are example rates, not a quote.
Compare customer card types as well as invoice sizes. Corporate or international cards and remotely entered payments may be priced differently.
Describe the trade accurately
Servicing, repairs, parts retail, vehicle sales and advance deposits can involve different risk and fulfilment patterns. Tell Awais exactly what the business does so eligibility and any conditions can be checked.
A high average transaction does not establish that a merchant will be approved. Do not assume limits, settlement arrangements or card-not-present facilities are identical across business activities.
Match the payment method to the collection process
List payments taken at reception, vehicle handover, off-site work and remotely. Ask about the permitted method for each scenario, receipts and the handling of refunds. Compare payment links and phone payments for remote invoices.
For an established garage, a useful review starts with monthly card volume, average invoice, current provider, full costs and contract timing. Awais can then discuss the commercially relevant options through his role.
Separate the deposit from the final payment
Explain whether payments are taken before parts are ordered, after a completed repair or at vehicle collection. Record the typical delay between payment and delivery of the service. Approval of ordinary workshop payments does not establish approval of every advance-payment arrangement.
If a customer pays remotely, use the agreed remote-payment facility and pricing. A payment link or phone-payment process may need separate terms from the machine at reception.
Make the first review specific
Useful inputs are monthly card sales, average invoice, the proportion of business or international cards if known, and whether you need a link to an invoicing system. State whether the concern is cost, collection delays, reliability or contract timing.
You can enter summary figures in the payment check. Applications and any supporting documents proceed through the provider-approved process; this website is not a route for collecting identity or banking documents.
Your comparison checklist
| Payment situation | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Workshop invoice at reception | Device, card mix, average sale and receipt workflow |
| Vehicle sale or deposit | Business eligibility, limits and fulfilment terms |
| Payment away from the premises | Coverage and authorised mobile use |
| Remote payment | Approved method, pricing and fraud/dispute procedures |
Common questions
Are all automotive businesses automatically suitable?
No. Repairs, retail, vehicle sales and deposits should be described accurately and assessed through the approved acquiring process.
Does a low transaction count make fees irrelevant?
No. Percentage fees still scale with the value paid, and fixed fees must be included.
